About three years ago, we got our first Starlink, and it completely revolutionized our overland travel. For the first time, we had reliable internet even in some of the most remote places we’ve camped. But it didn’t take long to realize that flat-mounting it on the roof was essential for full-time life on the road—no setup, no takedown, just always connected. We documented that part of our journey in the video “DIY Starlink Flat Mount RV Roof Adapter Powered by 12 Volts” where we shared how we flat mounted our Gen 3 Dish and modified the power supply for 12 volt mobile use.
Since then, we’ve continued to refine our system, and now added in the Starlink Mini which can be powered from 12 volts natively, this is perfect for remote hiking when we are away from the truck. However, connecting a reasonable sized battery without adaptors and cables can be an issue and oftentimes bulky with adapters and cables. Enter the StarSled Go—a compact, affordable, and lightweight battery pack designed specifically to socket into the recess of the Starlink Mini.

What is the StarSled Go?
The StarSled Go is a 3D-printed battery enclosure and BMS that is designed to hold six 18650 batteries that are commonly used in power tools, flashlights, electric scooters, and vapes. Designed with portability in mind, this solution addresses the need for a lightweight and cost-effective power source.
Key Features
- Affordability: The DIY StarSled Go battery pack for the Starlink Mini can be assembled with an approximate total cost of $13.50. This includes about $2.00 for the 3D printed PETG enclosure, $3.50 for electronic components, and an additional $8.00 for the batteries.
- Compact Design: The entire battery sled was designed specifically to snap neatly into the tripod recess of the Starlink Mini – no modifications to the dish required. With the 3D-printed enclosure sunk into the recess perfectly, there are no dangling wires or clunky external battery packs.
- Lightweight: The materials used keep the overall weight minimal, no unneeded chargers and weight in the battery sled itself, ensuring that it doesn’t add unnecessary weight to the unit. This portability makes it a practical option for those planning on slipping it into a backpack for a hike.
- Easily Recharged: from readily available Single Cell Chargers, Wall Wart Chargers or from a small solar panel that produces 30 to 50 watts at 30 volts.
- DIY Assembly: Our video provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide on assembling the StarSled Go. Even for those who may not consider themselves particularly tech-savvy, the instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. The components required are readily accessible, making this an achievable project for most DIY hobbyist. For detailed instructions and visual guidance, consider watching the video.
Who Needs This?
The StarSled Go is ideal for anyone who needs reliable internet while staying off-grid—especially those who prioritize lightweight, compact gear. Whether you’re a Search and Rescue Team, an overlander going for the occasional hike, a hiker venturing into remote regions, or a paddler on a multi-day canoe trip, this setup gives you true plug-and-play connectivity without dragging along bulky power stations. It offers flexibility that digital nomads never had before. If you’ve ever wished your Starlink could follow you just a little farther—this is the solution that finally makes that possible.
